Project Ebulejonu (Queen Project)
Project Ebulejonu (Queen Project) is an initiative of Protect the Child Foundation, supported by the French Embassy Fund, focused on advancing the rights and protection of women, children, and persons with disabilities through strengthened community action against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
Implemented across Idah and Lokoja Local Government Areas of Kogi State, the project was designed around advocacy, sensitization, and empowerment, creating sustainable impact within local communities.
Advocacy
Protect the Child Foundation carried out advocacy visits and had strategic engagements with traditional rulers, religious leaders, government institutions, security agencies, and civil society organizations to strengthen collaboration in addressing SGBV and protecting vulnerable groups.
Key stakeholders engaged during the project included the Attah of Igala Land, the Maigari of Lokoja, religious bodies such as JNI and CAN, the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the Divisional Police Headquarters in Idah, and the Office of the Chairman of Idah Local Government Area.
These engagements promoted community ownership, strengthened partnerships, and encouraged collective responsibility toward the protection and empowerment of women, children, and persons with disabilities.
Sensitization and Awareness Creation
The sensitization phase focused on building awareness, encouraging dialogue, and promoting safer communities through grassroots engagement. Outreach activities were carried out across communities, markets, and public spaces in Idah and Lokoja, including Lokoja International Market and Egah Market in Idah.
Through community interactions and awareness campaigns, participants gained knowledge on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, child protection, violence prevention, personal safety, and the importance of reporting abuse. The project also created opportunities for open discussions around harmful social norms, discrimination, and the protection of vulnerable persons.
These engagements empowered community members to become advocates for inclusion, safety, and positive social change within their communities.
Skills Acquisition and Empowerment
Project Ebulejonu also focused on economic empowerment by providing vocational and skills acquisition training for over 100 women, girls, and persons with disabilities.
Beneficiaries received practical training in tailoring, cosmetology, catering, bag making, and cinematography, equipping them with valuable skills for financial independence and sustainable livelihoods.
At the completion of the training program, participants were supported with starter packs and business tools including sewing machines, ovens, tripods, and measuring scales to help them establish and grow their businesses.
Baseline Report
As part of the project implementation process, a validation exercise was conducted to review findings from the baseline assessment carried out in Idah and Lokoja communities.
The exercise brought together stakeholders, youth leaders, community representatives, persons with disabilities, beneficiaries, and project partners to validate data, share recommendations, and strengthen participation in the project implementation process.
Discussions during the session highlighted critical issues affecting women, children, and persons with disabilities, including gender inequality, abuse, discrimination, limited economic opportunities, and inadequate awareness of rights. The validation process also helped strengthen strategies for advocacy, sensitization, and empowerment activities under the project.
Art X Impact
Art X Impact served as the closing event for Project Ebulejonu and also commemorated International Women’s Day.
The event celebrated the resilience, creativity, and achievements of women, children, and persons with disabilities while showcasing the impact of the project within Lokoja and Idah communities.
Through artistic performances, advocacy sessions, exhibitions, and beneficiary testimonies, the event highlighted the power of creativity as a tool for social change and community advocacy. It also provided an opportunity to celebrate beneficiaries, stakeholders, and creatives who contributed to the success and impact of Project Ebulejonu.
The event reinforced the importance of continued advocacy, inclusion, and collective action toward building safer and more equitable communities for all.

School Sensitization
There are a lot of myths around menstruation and unfortunately this affects how menstrual hygiene products and access to them are handed. We observed that some girls in suburb and rural areas miss school during their monthly menstrual cycle due to poverty and inability to afford sanitary pads. “End period poverty” involves free distribution of sanitary pads to students and schools in order to protect the dignity of the girl child and to ensure no girl misses school due to menstruation. So far, we have distributed thousands of pads to female students in several schools in the suburbs of Abuja FCT, Nasarawa state, Kogi state and environs.
Visit to UBEB
PTCF acknowledges that the fight against child sexual abuse is not a one-man show, hence the need for collaborations with relevant stakeholders in order to ensure the prevention, response and reportage of child sexual abuse. Currently, PTCF has strong working relationships with various schools (public and private), Nigeria Police, Universal Basic Education Board, FCT Sexual and Gender Violence Response Team, Nigeria Bar Association, Adelante Castle Attorneys, Facebook Community Accelerator, Free and a host of others.
Train the Trainer
Recognizing that educators are central to learning outcomes, PTCF equips educators with child protection skills, trauma-informed teaching techniques, and classroom safety protocols. Through her Train the trainers and stakeholders workshop on how to prevent, respond and report cases of child sexual abuse. With over 60 teachers and 41 schools trained on how to prevent, respond, report and offer psychosocial support to survivors of child sexual abuse. And also her school safety trainings , PTCF is Promoting safe and inclusive school environments where children can thrive and Partnering with local schools to institutionalize best practices.
PTCF Club
Protect The Child Foundation club Established in 2022, PTCF Clubs are in five government-owned schools in Abuja, engaging about 2000 students, focusing on body safety, age-appropriate sex education, self-esteem building, mental health awareness, creativity, knowledge on child rights, and leadership skills. As one principal noted, “PTCF has positively influenced the lives of students in self-confidence, knowledge, and attitudes towards gender equality.
Sensitization
Since its inception in 2017, Protect the Child Foundation (PTCF) has actively championed the rights and wellbeing of children through consistent advocacy and sensitization programmes. These initiatives are targeted at schools, marketplaces, and communities across Nigeria, addressing critical issues such as Child Sexual Abuse, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), and violations of children’s rights. Through these efforts, PTCF has directly reached over 30,000 beneficiaries with life-changing information and support. a. Adult awareness and trainings i. Market sensitisation ii. Back to School
Back-to-School Project –Promoting school attendance and Retention Through her back to school programme PTCF supports students and pupils education by payment of school charges, provision of notebooks and stationery, psychosocial support, uniforms, mentorship, and community advocacy. Also, PTCF works directly with vulnerable children and families to reduce dropout rates and increase school enrolment. Between 2022 – 2024, PTCF has distributed over 5,000 of school essentials and have helped over one thousand (1,000) pupils and students in Nigeria attend school and remain in the classroom.
